Enhance Affiliate Engagement with AffiliateWP – Tiered Affiliate Rates
Enhance your affiliate marketing style using AffiliateWP – Tiered Affiliate Rates, which is a powerful WordPress plugin that rewards affiliates with greater commissions as they hit certain performance benchmarks.
This addon works with your AffiliateWP and allows you to implement commission structures that provide motivation along with an incentive to affiliates.
What Is AffiliateWP – Tiered Affiliate Rates?
AffiliateWP – Tiered Affiliate Rates works as an addon for the AffiliateWP plugin. It helps you set multiple commission tiers based on an affiliate’s referrals and earnings, In turn motivating affiliates to drive sales so they can unlock new tiers.
Key Features
- Expand the number of commission tiers into as many as you want with designated referral or earnings limits to each one.
- Set tier limits based upon the total referrals or on total earnings produced by the affiliate.
- Global Rate Override: Tiered rates may override the default global commission rate. Command overrules the tier rate above global commission.
- Moderate Commission Management: Establish and manage tiered commission rates from the WordPress dashboard. No special skills required.
Process Overview
When the addon is active, please go to AffiliateWP » Settings » Tiered Rates to set your levels.
The following parameters can be set for each tier:
Type
Select “Number of Referrals” or “Total Earnings” as the criteria to move up and down the tiers.
Threshold
Determine the number of referrals or total earnings an affiliate needs to achieve to become eligible for the tier.
Rate
Determine the value of commission for the tier; it can either be set as a percentage or fixed amount.
Disabled
Allow tiers to be hidden but not permanently removed.
Affiliates will advance to the next tier when all the requirements have been met and the referrals count is with a “Paid” status.
The adjusted rate will apply to all future referrals the user makes; it only applies prospectively and not retrospectively where payment for referrals was made earlier.
To enable affiliates who are aiming towards the new goal to reset tiered rates at the start of every month, you can enable Tiered Rate Expiration.
This option ensures that affiliates do not perpetually earn higher commission rates, as it fosters ongoing engagement from the affiliates toward the program.
Referral Based Tiers Examples
- 0–10 referrals = 20% commission rate
- 11–20 referrals = 25% commission rate
- 21–50 referrals = 30% commission rate
- 51–100 referrals = 35% commission rate

- $101–$200 earnings = 25% commission rate
- $201–$500 earnings = 30% commission rate

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What do I need to achieve for every tier?
You will receive a set number of referrals with the rank ‘Paid’ exceeded the tier mark.
Commission updates only take effect for new referrals; past commissions will not be altered retroactively.
Q2: Can I disable a tier without deleting it to set it aside for later use?
Correct, “Disabled” allows you to set a tier aside temporarily in the Tiered Rates settings without deleting it.
You may enable it any time it is needed again.
Q3: What is the difference between referral-based tiers and earnings-based tiers?
Referral based tiers differ from earnings based tiers in that referral based will depend on the total number of paid referrals an affiliate generates, while earnings based will depend on the total amount of paid referral commission an affiliate has earned.
Q4: Will the tiered rates apply to past referrals?
No, the tiered rates are not retroactive.
The higher commission will only be applied after the affiliate reaches the new tier.
